Who are the Roughriders? The Roughriders are a semi-pro baseball team franchised in the TriCounty Baseball League. What is TriCounty baseball? The TriCounty Baseball League is an independent, semi-pro baseball league based in Southern New Jersey. How do I contact the Roughs? What is the age limit? There is no minimum or maximum age limit. Where do the players come from? 90% of all players are currently in college or are former college players. A small percentage of those have had minor league experience. What teams make up the league and where are they from? Who is the league president? Rick Ventura. How do I contact the president? Rick Ventura can be contacted by email at ricvent@aol.com What costs are associated with the league? League fees consist of an entry fee of $175 and an insurance fee of $125. Additionally, home teams are responsible for paying umpires and supplying baseballs at each game. Equipment, including uniforms, bats, etc., is also the responsibility of each team. How do I start my own team? Rights to a team franchise are requested through the president. Individuals making this request are asked to attend an off-season meeting. The meeting serves as a vehicle to present why the new team should be franchised. Current teams will either accept or reject the proposed franchise based on a majority vote. Must each team use wood bats? Wood bats have been required since 1999. Composite bats may be used. How are umpires assigned and paid? Umpires are assigned by the NJBUA. The home team is responsible for the payment to umpires. Costs are currently at $88/game. How many games constitute a season? When does the season start and end? The current number of games is 26 (13 home, 13 away). The season begins approximately on June 1 and continues through the end of July. Playoffs start in late July/early August and last approximately two weeks. |
