Roughriders 2, CH/Pitman 0 (9 innings) August 8, 2023
Game 1 - Finals
PITMAN - Evan Carbone's two-run single in the top of the ninth was the game winner as the Roughriders earned a thrilling 2-0 Game One victory in the best-of-three series versus Cherry Hill/Pitman. The game was the true definition of a pitching duel, as both teams went scoreless for eight innings. Roughriders' starter John DiCostanzo dominated through seven innings, yielding just two hits and two walks while striking out eight. Mason Dobbs would relief DiCostanzo in the eighth with runners on first and second no no outs, and see his way out of the jam to keep the game 0-0 with some help from shortstop Sean Perkins. With one out, Perkins made a series turning play when he fielded an infield hit just beyond the infield grass at second base and delivered a no-look throw to home plate to cut down the potential winning run attempting to advance. That momentous play set up the Roughrider ninth inning. Shane Daly and Isaiah Ishmail led off with infield hits. After a Perkins' sacrifice, Carbone delivered another clutch playoff hit. Dobbs earned the win in relief with two scoreless innings (1 H, 2 BB, 2 K). Game Two is tomorrow night at Alcyon Park beginning at 7pm.

Roughriders 3, CH/Pitman 2 August 9, 2023
Game 2 - Finals
PITMAN - Evan Carbone's two out, two-run single in the bottom of the fourth broke a 1-1 tie and provided the winning runs in the Roughriders' 3-2 victory over Cherry Hill/Pitman, earning the team a series sweep and the 2023 Carter Cup. In another tight contest, the Roughs drew first blood when Carbone walked to lead off the third. After a strikeout and fielder's choice advancing him to second, Aaron Graeber's RBI single scored Carbone for a 1-0 lead. CHP would answer back in the top of the fourth off starter Chris Brown with a single tally, but the Roughs would respond yet again in their half. Jack Murphy walked and when Shane Daly's infield single to shortstop was thrown away, the Roughriders had runners at first and third with no outs. Daly would then steal second and after back-to-back strikeouts Carbone slashed a single to center to score both runs. With a 3-1 lead, manager Thomas Gosse' called on reliever Zach Welsher to close out the game. Welsher responded with three innings of one-hit ball (1 ER, 1 BB, 6 K). Chris Brown (4 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K) was credited with the win. For Carbone, it capped off a terrific playoff run that saw him deliver the game winning RBI in three consecutive games. The team finishes the season with an overall record of 20-8 (.714), including seven straight playoff wins and an 8-1 mark overall in the playoffs.
